Global ICT Systems Latest News

Second Quarter 2009

  • Announcing a new entry in our founder's blog: "Notes from The Cabin" - This quarter Ben talks about how personal computers need to move away from the stand alone desktop paradigm of their original design-vision during the 70's and 80's to a system that is designed from the ground up to be literally Internet plug and play, (i.e. do nothing more than switch it on and go).  These systems shall provide a no brainer, safer, cheaper, more productive, globally connected, platform where everything, (applications, data, and people) are always available and ready to rock and roll! Its a new paradigm that will quickly replace the obsolete, isolated, and problematic shrink wrap model of past decades. read more

  • New web sites! Coming soon! We are about to launch a brand new Embassy website permanently assigned to the United Nations in New York City.  There will be other embassy sites using a similar theme following that launch. We are also going to be announcing the launch of another on-line specialty web store based in Massachusetts called "Aura Infusions". Its targeted launch will be for the full moon on the 9th of April.  Also new web sites for: Island Energy Systems and Live Edge Building (both based on Orcas Island) will be forthcoming after that.  Stay tuned.

  • Announcing a class in web content management during the month of may 2009 - Our Founder and CIO, Ben Sheppard will be introducing a class at the Funhouse Community Center on Orcas Island titled: "Publishing on the Web using Joomla! & other Content Management Systems (CMS)".  The class is intended for anyone wishing to develop skills for creating, uploading, organizing, and managing content and media on modern web 2.0 equipped websites.  Web 2.0 is a marketing term that in a nutshell means: (interactive two-way media rich web).  We will focus on current best practice on-line web publishing tools & techniques that are quickly replacing traditional print publishing methods all over the world. Knowledge of HTML or other markup languages is not necessary.  Students will receive a signed certificate from Global ICT Systems upon completion of the course.  I intend to use material from this course to develop an "on-line" course by the same name, and will make it available to all Global ICT Systems clients for FREE!  Its the answer to a much needed service many of our clients have been asking for.

  • This class will focus on developing the skills needed to use on line web editing tools and all of the tasks related to creating, uploading, organizing, and managing content and media on a website equipped with these kinds of tools.

  • As promised in an earlier post about moving to Orcas Island, Ben has LOTS of photos! They are posted on my facebook page .  (you have to have a facebook account and become a friend to see them however).  I do have plans to create a Picasa Web Album soon which everyone will be able to view without joining anything however.  Hopefully my son Noah will be helping with that.  He's the photographer in the family :) Check out: his web site. btw, Noah made that site all by himself 3 years ago without any help from me.

Our Primary Vision

Global ICT Systems Inc. and many of its global alliance partners and affiliates are committed service providers, developers, designers, artists, producers, managers, fans, clients, family, and friends, ... all who support and encourage the proliferation of Open Source initiatives with the vision to unify Internet standards for the benefit of all, to empower and connect individuals, communities, organizations, and enterprises around the globe, and make all knowledge freely and easily accessible to everyone regardless of sex, age, race, religion, education, language, class, social standing, financial status, location, or any other defined accessibility challenge that we may encounter as we march on exponentially into the future.

Our internal focus is to become a 100% Virtual Company... Say What? Huh? What we mean by "Virtual Company" in a very practical sense is that 100% of all company functions can be performed on any currently available laptop PC or even smaller mobile device that is connected through a WiFi, wired, or other connection to the ubiquitous Internet.

The other part of our concept of a "Virtual Company" is the idea that there is no merit in wasting time re-inventing any wheels and in that spirit we enthusiastically support the idea of doing what you do best and partnering with others who do what they do best.  This is the WiKi Sharing Community Spirit so vitally needed for the success of our future!
