This is Part 1 of a review of the Blogg-X editor and its integration with the Joomla! Content Management Environment

Blogg-X is a multi platform stand alone (on the client PC) WYSIWYG web content editor.

I am using Blogg-X to compose and publish this review on my Dell laptop PC... There is no need to be connected on-line while editing an article with Blogg-X...  This is one of the main reasons I am interested in seeing how well Blogg-X works.

Using Blogg-X solves some of the inherent problems encountered when using a browser based web editor, however these issues are also a cultural holdover from the days prior to the web where everyone used their PCs and were not so well connected over the Internet.

The problem is not the web or the Internet, but rather that the PCs we use to access the web and Internet were designed for an earlier era when we did not have the web. Although we have modern operating systems like Windows XP, Vista, and Mac OS-X, all of these are still pretty much following that old paradigm, and the web features are added on top of that architecture as a retrofit to something that is inherently designed as a stand alone system...

I believe when Web 2.0 matures, and Operating Systems, finally become fully committed as nodes on a massively large network, folks will become much more accustomed to doing everything on the web using feature rich and reliable tools that make web publishing a snap with out all the headaches and user unfriendliness that we experience today. When that day comes, (soon i hope) the need for custom HTML programming will be a memory of the past, just like hand coded word processors became obsolete with the advent of Graphical User Interfaces like Mac OS and MS Windows.

In the future, when you flip the switch on your PC, the entire Operating System, and all your Applications will load up from a server somewhere and will just work exactly as you need it to work. If there is a crash, none of your data will be lost and all you will have to do is click a reset button that reloads your entire system in the exact context that it was in before the crash. Your cursor will be in the same spot you left it and you will be back to work in seconds or even fractions of seconds (when we all have gigabit fiber optic network connections)... How long does it take for Windows Vista to load now? :)

Well I have not said much about Blogg-X have I?  But thats a good thing... its pretty transparent and I like that... It does the job well.  I will continue this review and talk more about Blogg-X features in a follow up article...  (Part 2) Coming soon!
